The Baker's Table at Urban Place in Lancaster

The Baker's Table is the most recent addition to the Baldwin family's community at Urban Place.  Hospitality is the focus for this team that brings you exquisite dining at Cork & Cap Restaurant and memorable stays at Cork Factory Hotel and is proud to invite you to gather around their table.  The Baker's Table is more than just a bakery, with a unique blend of history, food, and baking classes you are sure to find this a memorable place worth visiting.  In fact the executive chef from Cork & Cap, Tammy Hurley, also runs the show at the Baker's Table.

Like Urban Place, The Baker's Table is a blend of the old and the new, the refined and the simple, the hearty and the delicate. Antique tools for baking are artfully arranged around the space--a gesture to our industrial past. At the center of the bakery is a large communal table crafted out of the wood beams that were part of the factory that once operated in the very same space.  Peering into the display cases, you'll find elegant tortes, croissants and éclairs nestled next to old-fashioned whoopie pies, zucchini bread and snickerdoodles. Whether you're choosing treats to box up and take home or something to enjoy with a delicious cup of Blue Bottle coffee at the large community table pictured below, you will enjoy it no matter what you decide.  In the finishing room that adjoins the bakery, guests can watch through the windows as our pastry team adds final touches to their creations. There, you'll find our executive chef Tammy Hurley infusing everything she makes with the back-to-basics goodness she learned from her mother on a Lancaster County dairy farm.

So it's all about a good cup of coffee, right?  The Baker's Table serves Blue Bottle Coffee, made from only the finest organic, pesticide-free, shade-grown beans. All of the coffee is served within seven days of roasting, ensuring the freshest taste possible.  They also meticulously hand-brew the coffee with the pour over coffee method, creating a rich, complex and clean cup profile with striking clarity.  While this approach requires a bit more attention, it achieves an aesthetic standard that is difficult to find anywhere else in Lancaster. This is slow coffee. Take your time coffee.  You can watch as they prepare your individual cup and savor the anticipation as your brew blooms under the skilled attention of our New York trained baristas. (Sandy served me my last cup there and she is a delight even first thing in the morning at 7am!)  For those who do not know, Blue Bottle Coffee is a Brooklyn-based micro-roaster that is changing how people think about coffee. To learn more, visit their website at BlueBottleCoffee.com.  My wife and I bought two bags of the Three Africans blend (About $9 a bag so not cheap) to roast at home and I'm enjoying the french press version every morning!

Although I have not been able to go yet I would also like to check out the baker's breakfast held every Sat & Sun from 7-11am.  For $9 you get a breakfast buffet with omelettes, made-to-order, with your favorite toppings. Hot waffles with fresh berries, syrup and whip topping. Accompanied by hashbrown potatos and a side of bacon or sausage.  Sounds delicious!

The Baker's Table is located at 480 New Holland Avenue, Building 6 (First Floor), Lancaster, PA 17602 and is open Saturday through Tuesday: 7am to 2pm and Wednesday - Friday: 7am to 5pm.
